Making an egg timer
I’ve boiled quite a few eggs in my life, but unfortunately, I still can’t boil a perfect egg. Because no matter what I try, it always turns out slightly differently. There had to be a better way, I thought. That’s why I decided to take a scientific approach. Because boiling an egg is, in fact, nothing more or less than pure chemistry.
And, to please others as well, I decided to package those results into a handy web app so anyone can boil an egg.
Below you will find information about the app itself.
Information about the app
The personalized timer for a perfect egg
This is the heart of the app, where a user enters a few simple options. The app then calculates the exact cooking time. The input fields are:
Desired softness
Instead of vague terms like “soft” or “hard,” the app uses a visual slider. You can slide a knob that changes the yolk from left to right: from soft to fully hard-boiled.
Size of the egg
Simple buttons to select the size: S, M, L, XL. 1I’m not sure if all countries use these egg sizes. Perhaps more explanation will be needed in the future, or there will be other options.
Temperature of the egg
A switch with two options: “From the refrigerator” or “At room temperature”.
Cooking method
A crucial choice: “Start in cold water” or “Place in boiling water.” The app adjusts the instructions and timing accordingly.
