Making an Egg Timer
I have boiled many eggs in my life and I still can’t boil a perfect egg. So I decided to take all the data and get scientific. I packaged the result in a handy web app, so that anyone can boil an egg.
Below you can find more information about the app itself.
Information about the app
The Personalized Timer for a perfect egg
This is the heart of the app, where a user fills in a few simple choices. The app calculates the exact cooking time. The input fields are:
Desired Doneness
Instead of vague terms like “soft” or “hard,” the app uses a visual slider. You can slide a button which changes the yolk from left to right: from runny to completely hard-boiled.
Egg Size
Simple buttons to select the size: S, M, L, XL.1I am not entirely sure if all countries work with these egg sizes. Perhaps this needs some more explanation or other options in the future.
Egg Temperature
A switch with two options: “From the fridge” or “At room temperature”.
Cooking Method
A crucial choice: “Start in cold water” or “Place in boiling water”. The app adjusts the instructions and timing accordingly.

Roadmap
New features
I have several new features in mind that I could add, but first I wanted to launch the app with all the basic features. One thing I can already say as a sort of sneak preview, is that I will be building a native iOS app in Swift.
